Back to the Farm with Outstanding in the Field

img_3488The foodie free spirits known as Outstanding in the Field have just released their 2009 summer schedule, including dates and sites, so you can make plans with your family and friends to purchase tickets. OITF operate like a roaming culinary circus, bringing drama, style, taste, and magic to their feasts by setting up their al fresco signature long table at farms all across the country.  The idea is to bring simple food, fresh local produce, and good people together at one super-sized seating with an emphasis on organic farming, sustainability, awareness, education, community, and of course, the harvest! Only local ingredients are used in the preparations of each meal by distinguished local chefs who are invited to curate the menu; the farmers, winemakers and cheesemakers who supply them are also invited to dine and speak. Last year, dinners sold out very quickly; several sold out within a few hours. To guarantee your seat at the table, be sure to make your reservation as soon as possible. The season begins in late May in California, then moves on to Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Canada, Montana, Minnesota and Wisconsin in July, before heading out across the country until October, when OTIF returns home to California. Don’t miss out on a wonderful opportunity to go back to the land and experience fresh food prepared at its source while making new friends at the same time. We say dig in!

Prices range between $180-$220 per person, which includes a five-course meal with wine pairings, all gratuities, producer discussions, and a tour of the farm. To see which chefs and farms will be featuring this year, go to outstandinginthefield.com or follow their blog. OITF is also available to travel anywhere in the world to perform an adventurous private dining event honoring farmers and food artisans. No site is too remote.
