HOTEL BUZZ: Six Senses Opens Up New Eco-Resort in Con Dao, Vietnam.

Only 45 minutes from Ho Chi Mihn city, travelers will not want to miss this stunning new resort on the beautiful Con Dao archipelago. The Six Senses Con Dao is located on the pristine Dat Doc beach in midst of a marine and national park with Elephant Head looming large in the background. Marco Polo visited Con Dao in the 13th Century, on his way from China to Europe, and later the East Indian Company established a small trading village on the main island. Swaths of white sand form breeding grounds for turtles, and further inland the park is home to rare birds, flora, fauna and monkeys, making it not only pretty as a picture, but ecologically unique.

There are 35 hotel villas and 15 luxury residential villas – all built with state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly functionality and cutting edge contemporary design that complement the natural surroundings. Unit styles range from single-level villas to duplexes, in configurations of one, three, four and five bedroom accommodations, many with indoor-outdoor showers, while the residential villas – also available for rent – enjoy pole position on the beachfront with sweeping decks and plunging pools. Built with materials from sustainable sources, construction techniques were adapted to preserve the integrity of the environment and local communities that surround them – an important part of the Six Senses mandate.

A wide selection of water sports including catamaran sailing, kayaking, water-skiing and snorkeling is available for guests, as well as a fleet of motorized watercrafts for excursions to other islands, local sites and fishing trips. Diving excursions are also available, taught and lead by certified dive masters to see coral reefs and underwater life. Other activities include: seasonal observation of turtles nesting on the beach at Hon Bay Canh and witnessing the baby tortoises hatch and return to sea; swimming and exploring the secluded beaches of Bai Dat Doc and Dam Trau; hiking and trekking through the mangroves and mystical forests; and witnessing dawn break as the sun rises over Hon Bay Canh and then watching the sunset over “Love” Mountain. More cultural activities include visiting historical monuments throughout Con Dao dating back to the French colonial era and further to the days when the East India Company and Portuguese merchants frequented the island. Best of all, is the chance to immerse yourself in the local culture, meet the local people and experience the simple life enjoyed on Con Dao, even if it is from the comfort and style of a Six Sense eco-villa.
