Maldives: The Perfect Wave

Charter a private seaplane at the Four Seasons Kuda Huraa to catch the best swells in the Indian Ocean.

Surfing may not be the first image that springs to mind when thinking of the Maldives, but this chain of atolls in the Indian Ocean offers idyllic surfing conditions in pristine clear waters for beginning to advanced surfers.

While it’s possible to find a wave at most times of the year in the Maldives, the Four Seasons Kuda Huraa makes locating the optimal swells easy by chartering a private seaplane. Led by an expert from the Resort’s Tropicsurf Surf School, a private seaplane flies guests directly to the best surfing conditions and allows surfers to access more coastline in less time. An instructor determines your ability level and then decides which breaks to surf. Once the seaplane locates a break, it taxis to the edge of the line up, where a short paddle is all that is required to reach a private surf break. Another bonus of a private charter—you can even paddle in for refreshments.

Seaplane Surfaris usually take place in the southern atolls of the Maldives. The prime surfing season is from April to October, with July and August generally producing the biggest swells. From November to February/March small waves suitable for longboarding can generally be found; however, there are also very strong currents which can limit one to surfing only once a day.

The cost of a Seaplane Surfari is US$2800 per hour with a minimum booking of 2 hours, plus a surfing charge of $150 per person. To book visit here.
