James Beard nominees and winners head to Virginia for a culinary celebration of local ingredients and hand-crafted spirits.

Local Roots FareLocal Roots, a farm-to-table favorite in Roanoke, will host a series of dinners with some of the East Coast’s top chefs who have either been nominated or won the coveted James Beard Award. Local Roots Executive Chef Josh Smith will team up with these culinary notables to make magic from the ingredients available  from local farmers in the area.

“We’re so excited that our guests will be able to experience the talents of these amazing chefs,” says Chef Smith. “The dinner series is indicative of Southwest Virginia’s growing culinary recognition and the amazing products that are so readily available throughout the area.”

On October 13, Chef Ed Lee from 610 Magnolia, a Louisville, Kentucky gem, will join Chef Josh SMith for a multi-course dinner featuring the autumnal bounty of Southwest Virginia. The five-course dinner can be paired with fine wines to enhance the gastronomic journey.

On November 3, Preston Van Winkle,  great-grandson of the famous Pappy Van Winkle and son of perennial James Beard Outstanding Wine and Spirits Professional nominee, Julian Van Winkle, will be on hand to talk about their new 2011 release from the Pappy Van Winkle Distillery in  Louisville, Kentucky. Chef Smith will prepare a three-course menu for dinner, as well as passed bar snacks to enjoy with the selection of bourbons.

On November 16, Chef Bryan Voltaggio, from VOLT Restaurant in Frederick, Maryland, will return to the Local Roots kitchen to serve an exciting multi-course menu highlighting the flavors of the Virginia and Maryland regions.

Located in the town’s historic Grandin district, Local Roots celebrates the absolute best of the Southwest Virginia region, from locally-sourced meat and produce to the work of area artisans and craftspeople that adorns the space of the restaurant.
