Salutations to the Sun, Patagonia-style

Downdog

If gazing at snow-covered peaks through the triangle of your legs as you breathe deeply into a downward dog pose while the soundtrack of a gurgling river fills the crisp air sounds intriguing, Bio Bio Worldwide Expeditions’ Patagonia Yoga Adventure might be the trip for you. Twenty guests will spend nine immersive days at the Bio Bio’s base camp along the Futaleufu River in Chile, doing yoga on an outdoor cliff-side platform with panoramic views of craggy peaks and world-classs rapids.duckydown

Forget preconceptions of  rustic camping, as Bio Bio has perfected “glamping,” or glamorous camping, that means tricked-out bungalows, two massage studios, a handcrafted wooden dry sauna, a riverside hot tub, and gourmet cuisine from a professional chef.  Stellar yogini, Maria Garre, the director of Shiva Rea’s Samudra School of Living Yoga will lead the classes in this breathtaking setting. Garre’s practice includes flow-style yoga, pranayama, meditation and even some dancing in a Yoga Trance Dance. In addition, participants will gallop on horseback, race down the river’s rapids and hike through the pristine wilderness.

The trip runs February 21 – March 1, 2010. $3,200 per person includes lodging, meals, drinks, all activities, transportation to and from Bariloche, the Bio Bio base camp. Savvy travelers take note: A $500 early bird discount is available if you sign-up before January 1, 2010.
