Santa Fe Readies Its 400th Anniversary Celebration

The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum Honors Annie Leibovitz

Annie Leibovitz by Paul GilmoreSanta Fe, NM–the nation’s oldest capital city–is celebrating its 400th Anniversary in 2010 and gearing up for a year of festivities. Its vibrant art community, history, and stunning scenery make it a favorite destination for many travelers at any time, but in March, the Inn on the Alameda is offering a special package to photography fans who will be flocking to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum to support Annie Leibovitz as the 2010 honoree in its esteemed “Women of Distinction” series. Established in 2007 during the Museum’s 10th Anniversary Celebration, the series pays homage to O’Keeffe’s legacy of achievement through an annual event that recognizes outstanding contributions made by contemporary women to our society and culture. The Women of Distinction Series was established to honor women who, like O’Keeffe, have effectively realized themselves as women and professionals. Ms. Liebowitz, who has been having a difficult time in the past year like so many, is in good company. Past recipients of the award include: Gloria Steinem (2009), Gail Sheehy (2007), and The Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg (2007). Despite her financial troubles, Ms. Liebowitz’ artistic verve and strong work ethic has not diminished, which is in itself an inspiration.
