Use Frequent Flier Miles to Support HURRICANE SANDY Relief Efforts
Hurricane Sandy has caused devastation across the East Coast with an estimated 7.8 million people without power and many lives lost. For those who want to help but don’t know where to begin, several airlines are allowing you to put your un-used miles to work for the American Red Cross. Multiple charitable-mile agreements have been arranged by The Red Cross, so you can donate your miles to help volunteers and staff get to critical areas. By donating, you can help provide relief to victims of this disaster.
Here is a list of airlines that have charitable mile agreements with the Red Cross. If you would like to donate your frequent flyer miles to the Red Cross, please contact your airline.
Continental’s frequent flyers may donate their OnePass miles online by visiting the airline’s web site (now United Airlines). Or, customers may make a donation by phone by calling 1-800-428-4322 (choose option 3 to speak with a customer service representative). Delta Air Lines supports the Red Cross by allowing its customers to donate their frequent flyer miles. While the Red Cross is not specifically mentioned by name on their web site, Delta customers can donate miles by phone, fax, e-mail or regular mail. To make a donation through SkyMiles OneSource Automated Telephone System, call 1-800-325-3999. Have your SkyMiles account number and PIN available when calling. Mileage Plus members can make donations to the American Red Cross through United Airline’s Mileage Plus charity program. The minimum mileage requirement for a donation is 1,000 miles. All donations should be made by visiting the Mileage Plus Service Center or by calling 1-800-421-4655. Members may donate miles in 1,000-mile increments to the Miles of Hope program by visiting the airline’s website. Based on contributions to the Red Cross Disaster Relief, American Airlines is giving AAdvantage members one-time bonus reward miles, starting with 250 miles for a minimum donation of $50.
