Wine News from Napa

Stags Leap District – Limited Edition Release

Only 200 cases will be available of this unique collection of 19 bottles, one from each of the Stags Leap District Winegrowers Association. The collection features noted 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon from a single appellation and will be offered until the end of November unless, of course, it sells out. Long warm summer days coupled with the chilly evenings four years ago produced a delightful fruit. The first Collection launched in 1997, and the current 2010 version is the largest set of bottles assembled and the only one of its kind from an American Viticultural Area. A perfect gift ($1499 with free ground shipping).

Humanitas Wines – Drink Charitably

Humanitas Family of WinesWho knew that you could indulge yourself in finely crafted wine while having the proceeds go to charity? Judd Wallenbrock has been working quietly and successfully for nearly a decade, blending a variety of bottles and directing the proceeds to charity with a focus on hunger, education and affordable housing organizations. Wallenbrock, who has held several executive marketing positions at Napa wineries,  has leveraged that experience for Humanitas Wines, finding hidden gems and offering a range of bottles from a 2007 Paso Robles Sauvignon Blanc ($14) to an astounding signature 2006 ‘Signum’ Napa Meritage ($75). Wallenbrock recently arranged tastings at the Michel-Schlumberger winery for a hands-on visit. Or you can join their wine club or order directly online.

Thanks for the great endorsement Brad! We are still in the process of setting up the tastings at Michel-Schlumberger — and to clarify — by day, I am the GM there, running Humanitas on the side to make great wines trying to do something good for the world. I’m really looking forward to getting Humanitas set up there, and recommend anyone interested in tasting to e-mail me directly at judd@humanitaswines.com to set up a tasting. You can also call me at 707-486-6724. Michel-Schlumberger is located in Dry Creek Valley just outside of Healsburg in north Sonoma County. Hope to see you all soon!
